i give thanks
that i have a thanksgiving
at home
while so many
are far away
serving
on hostile shores

more than one
thanksgiving
i myself
stood watch on
foreign waves
far from the familiar
comforts of home

this thanksgiving
i give thanks
for those who stand
in harms way
so i am free to give thanks
for so much.
